Bimini

The island is best known for fishing, and the surrounding ocean is considered by many to be one of the world's top fishing spots. Because Bimini is only about 50 miles (80 km) east of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, many American anglers go to the island by boat to fish, or to enjoy the local nightlife. Scuba diving andsnorkeling are also popular activities, as there are many shipwrecks in the area.

Andros is actually a series of islands and cays connected by a series of canals called bights.

A luring 50 miles from Miami, Florida, Bimini is a popular destination for Americans. But it's more than location that gives this island its appeal.

Throughout Bimini, there's a Florida-resort atmosphere mingled with some small-town charm. For the casual sightseer, it has only minor appeal, but if you'd like to follow in the footsteps of such famous fishers as Zane Grey and Howard Hughes, Bimini is your island.
